Eric Halverson from Wish TV asked council members to answer some questions to find out what the tax issues mean to their campaigns. Here was Scott Keller’s response:
“My constituents have responded to the property tax issue with, in some cases, the fear that they will not be able to pay and thus lose their houses——-my District has many retired folks on fixed incomes. They are angry and confused about what to do.
Yes, it has influenced how I conduct my campaign———-I am spending more time discussing this on their doorsteps. They want help from someone.
I am going door-to-door with my 2,800 voters. Many are angry. Some are consigned to no hope.
The tax issue has not affected fund-raising for me at all.
I can not assess how the property tax issue will govern voters————–will they throw about the bums (if so, I’m a bum) or will they vote Republican, blaming Mayor Peterson? Will more vote? How will the Peterson campaign react? How much more money will they spend? All unknowns to me.” (Wish TV, Sept. 13, 2007)
